Yarn Alternative

If your yarn alternative has a different yardage, you may need more or fewer balls of yarn than the amount recommended in the pattern. You can use the knitting calculator to calculate how much of your yarn alternative you will need here.

There are also a few things to consider when choosing a yarn alternative:

• Does the yarn alternative match the gauge?
• Is the fabric dense or loose? Your yarn alternative may match the pattern’s gauge, but if the original yarn produces a dense fabric while your yarn alternative produces a looser fabric, the finished result will look and feel quite different.
• Is the yarn you are replacing elastic or inelastic?
• Does the yarn produce a defined or undefined stitch pattern?
• How does the yarn compare in terms of drape and structure?
